“Secrets to Success” - a rewarding talk for English Ambassadors
On 15th May, our English Ambassadors visited Colliers International HK Office, conveniently located on the 57th floor of Central Plaza. This community programme was co-organized by the American Chamber of Commerce with the help of Scholastic Hong Kong. The mission of this school outreach programme was to inspire students from local Hong Kong secondary schools to seek personally satisfying career paths and a socially productive future as well as to have a more global outlook.
It was such a pleasure for our students to listen to a talk delivered by Mr Nigel Smith, Managing Director at Colliers International HK and find out more about the real estate industry in Hong Kong. With over 28 years of experience, Mr Nigel shared his extensive Hong Kong and global experience as he has been working in HK since 1990. The key take-away point from the talk was the fact that anyone can become successful in life. It doesn't matter what the present state of a person is. If he really wants to make a change, eventually he can achieve success. For that you have to follow some principles such as the methods followed by successful people, entrepreneurs and famous legends. Success will not come quickly. It is the end result of working for your dream and learning lessons from failures.

Alfred Zheng, 5A:
I had a chance to indulge myself with a stunning view of Wan Chai from the 57th floor of Central Plaza that I hadn’t seen before. The scenery is very beautiful indeed.
What I have learnt from the talk is a positive attitude, which I think can help me develop myself by nurturing it from an early age. Mr Nigel Smith mentioned in his talk that our life is full of unexpected twists and turns, which can make you gradually stronger by overcoming these life barriers one by one. Although we may fail, when we try to deal with difficulties, we can begin to understand that it's through failure that we truly learn to succeed.
Personally, I used to be scared of diving into the unknown, of uncertainty, of unfamiliarity, of not knowing what’s going to happen. I guess this is true for most of us as we are scared that things could go wrong, that things will be uncomfortable, and that things might not go as expected. Mr Smith told us that throwing yourself into the unknown can be very rewarding even though you may fail one day. No matter what the problem is, just carry on and try to approach from a different angle. Finally, try to deal with your weaknesses and don’t run away when you face them. Never give up and just try everything, it can make you stronger. Just believe that the more challenges you have to face, the more success you can get.
Kimmy Chan, 4E:
We learned about the real estate sector in Hong Kong, but more importantly, we learned that anyone can achieve success in life. It doesn’t really matter what your situation is now, if you really want to make a difference in your life, eventually you can achieve success. But you have to work hard for your dreams and learn from your failures.
